Men and Romance. Most women think those two go together like oil and
water, Grant and Lee, religion and science, or Obama and Romney. Well, I
am here to tell you that we have been giving the male species the short
end of the stick. After polling over 2,000 men and asking them direct
questions in the areas of romance, we got some very telling answers, and
frankly, you will be surprised!
I asked men from diverse age brackets and backgrounds to answer the following questions:
1- How long does it take a man to know he's in love with a woman?
62% said they believe in love at first sight! Men typically fall in love faster.
2- What do you consider the most important trait in a potential mate?
75% said kindness! They are looking for their best friend!
3- Are you looking for a long-term relationship or just someone to hang out with?
98% said they are looking for a long-term relationship! 98%!
4- If a woman earns more money than you do, is that intimidating or a deal breaker?
78% said they like an accomplished woman and find it sexy.
5- How do you feel about a woman who sleeps with you on the first, second or third date?
62% said she would not be a girl they would marry. They lost interest in pursuing her. (It seems today's man still has some old-fashioned values.)
6- How do you feel about cheating on a significant other?
57% said they had been cheated on! Only 38% said they had done the cheating. Hmmmmm.
7- Which would be harder to take, failure in a relationship or failure in your career?
85% said a failure in their career would impact them most, BUT they said if they were in a committed relationship (like marriage), it would hit even harder as they still feel it's their responsibility to provide. As one man put it, "My career revolves around how I see myself as being a good provider, which is directly tied to my relationship with my wife. It is hard to separate the two... relationships and work."
8- What is the most important thing you want a woman to feel about you? That you are good in bed? That you are handsome or accomplished? Hang on to your pantyhose, ladies... know what men said????
97% said they want to be the Hero in their woman's eyes!!!! They want to be appreciated, needed, admired and loved. Sex, looks and prowess at work didn't rank.
So, there you have it. Were you surprised? All of the men I polled said they love romance.
Most admitted to being nervous about "doing it right" when it came to candles, flowers, cards and setting up a romantic date. They felt pressure to not look stupid, clumsy or "wrong". After reading 2,000 answers on what men are looking for and how they feel about women, I actually felt a tug of compassion for how MUCH they want you to appreciate them for who they are and how hard they are trying to make you happy! Most said they meet far too many women who hold up hoops for them to jump through and feel entitled to a PERFECT man. Food for thought, ladies... food for thought.
